about me
My name is John Kiefer – Welcome to my portfolio!
Until recently, I attended a British international school in Switzerland where I was in the first year of IGCSE studies. I’m now continuing my education in the Swiss school system because I am very keen on starting an apprenticeship where I can use my creative strengths and interests.
I enjoy working with photography and video to create visual content and have shared on social media and online platforms since around the 5th grade. I like experimenting with different ideas, perspectives, and editing styles to turn simple moments into something interesting and maybe even entertaining.
Outside of that, I play electric guitar and spend hours a day learning new songs – I also play in a band. I like sketching too. From characters and scenes to buildings and city, and bringing those ideas from my imagination onto paper or into digital form.
For me, creative work is about building something from an idea and improving it step by step. This portfolio shows a selection of some of my recent work.

In mid-autumn of 2022, I discovered a tree with vibrant orange leaves that stood out against the grayed colors of the season. The image captured the beauty of autumn and the striking presence of a single tree within the city landscape. Although I didn’t win, I did make 4th place.
This photograph was taken for the children’s category of the Nature Photographer of the Year competition at the Museum of Natural History in Basel.

These drawings focus on perspective, learning about lines and scale to create depth to the image.
They are part of my I.G.C.S.E. art studies.
The beauty of nature
While on a hike, I captured these images when I saw how the surrounding landscape transforms when sunlight reflects off the leaves.
Landskron
These images were taken at Landskron Castle Ruins, France during a hike. I was fascinated by how nature slowly takes over what was once carefully built.
The scene illustrates the passing of time, where nature, weather, and decay transform the castle into part of the landscape again.
American muscle cars
A Sunday in Luzern, my father and I went to a car meet. The event presented american muscle cars.
Some car photos I edited to create a vibe like it was the 80s, when my father owned one like it.
geography class – VIDEO presentation
This Geography project on Kyoto combines data research, visuals, storytelling and a little humor, to turn presentations into something more than just facts and slides.
I was especially happy that the final result earned a good grade.
